“ I have been able to excel in my speed and quick turns! She (Meghan) doesn’t just make sure you get faster; she makes sure that you’re making your turns correctly and breaking down to decrease the possibilities of getting hurt. This has strengthened my speed and quick adjustments to my game on the field.” -E. Ostos- Davidson COllege Commit

Background

When I started my career 15 years ago, ALL female athletes, whether it was field hockey, volleyball or soccer, were being grouped into the same programming as their male counterparts. That is the point where I decided I wanted to change the landscape of training female athletes.

For the past 10 years of my 15 years in the business, I have focused on primarily female athletes. Even today, there are very few, if any (in the area), trainers that work with just female athletes. My programs are sports specific with individual athlete training plans. I strive to improve the individual player’s game while training them in a team environment.

15 years ago, field hockey wasn’t as popular as it is now. Female field hockey players were looking for someone to listen to their needs and train them like field hockey players.

I started with 6 field hockey girls that were looking to me to help them improve their play. At that time, I had never trained field hockey players. They helped me build my first field hockey program. I simply asked, “as a player, tell me what you need…. what areas will improve your game?” Together we modified speed, agility, and strength for the field hockey athlete. Along the way, they taught me the game.

I went to their games to watch their mechanics and to better understand the game. Watching the individual play in a game helped me make specific adjustments to their training. I fell in love with the game. I saw that field hockey players could benefit from training programs specifically designed for them. Field hockey players must be fast, have endurance, be agile, and be strong.

Playing the game of field hockey comes with common overuse injuries and that is also addressed in the program.

In the 15 years, I have worked with over 100 field hockey players. More than half playing or played in college. My program has grown with the game and has kept up with the needs of the players today.
